Scotstown GAA CLG, (An-Bhoth), represents the Parish of Tydavnet in North County Monaghan and is a men's and ladies football club with a rich history of renowned success. Although no precise date has been recorded for the foundation of the club, Gaelic games have been played in the parish since at least the nineteenth century. Various clubs came and went in the parish over the early part of the twentieth century and it wasn't until the 1930s, when structures became more organised, that the teams began to record official success on the playing fields. During this decade, and up until the early 60s, there were teams affiliated in Scotstown, Knockatallon, and Tydavnet and, at various stages, all three teams competed simultaneously and successfully at senior, junior and under-age level. In the late 50s/early 60s all three teams amalgamated to form the current club.
The club finally made the breakthrough at Senior level in the county after the amalgamation. In 1960 Scotstown won the Monaghan Senior Football Championship for the first time. This heralded a new dawn for Gaelic Football in the parish of Tydavnet and ever since the club has been a major force in Monaghan and Ulster football and a well-recognised unit of the association throughout the length and breadth of Ireland. The club contested three further county finals in the 60s but had to wait until 1974 for their next victory. They were successful again in 1977 – the first of five in a row, took their eye of the ball in 1982, but came back in 1983 for a further three in a row. Eight out of nine – no mean achievement! They won three consecutive Ulster Club Championships in 1978, 1979 and 1980 and on St Patrick's Day 1979, in atrocious weather conditions, they narrowly failed to win an All-Ireland title. In 1989 they recorded their next county championship win and again proceeded to win a fourth Ulster club title. Further championship success came our way in 1992 and 1993.
The measure of success during the period was that the club were able to preserve their Senior status throughout the next 2 decades. More recently, the club has renewed its success in Monaghan club football again winning the Senior Championship again in 2013, followed by more success in 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018, 2020, 2021 and 2023, competing in 11 county finals in a row. The club were also runners up in the Ulster Club championship in 2015, 2018 and 2023.
